The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has announced today that more than 170 civilians from Mariupol have arrived in the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporizhia.
Through a Twitter post tonight, the ICRC said that after weeks of living mostly underground, over 170 civilians from Azovstal [uzina e çelikut] and the Mariupol area have arrived in Zaporizhia
“This is the third safe passage operation we have coordinated. We are deeply relieved that we can help more civilians get to a safer place,” the statement said.
It was not clear how many of the evacuees were trapped in Azovstal.
Mariupol City Council said a total of 173 people had been rescued from Azovstal and Mariupol.
He said that “10 buses with residents of Mariupol are already in the territory of free Ukraine.”
“Thank you to all of Azovstal’s heroic defenders for this. “At the cost of three lives of our soldiers and six wounded, the soldiers managed to pick up and remove the civilians from the factory.” t tha.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Azov Regiment are not only defending themselves at the cost of their efforts, but are also rescuing civilians,” the council said.
