A large increase in cases of coronavirus was recorded on Tuesday afternoon in Greece, after the National Public Health Organization announced 20,084 new infections, including 3664 re-infections, 16 deaths and 95 intubations.
Since the beginning of the pandemic Greece has recorded a total of 30,206 deaths, of which 95.7% in patients with a history of disease and age 70 years and older.
Experts estimate that the new pandemic wave will peak in mid-July, when the country will be full of tourists.
Since yesterday when the electronic platform was launched, 10,000 people have closed the vaccination with the fourth dose, for which doctors recommend especially those over 60 years old. Meanwhile, this time the citizens aged 29 to 59 do not seem very enthusiastic, as there are many cases that even the most recently vaccinated are infected.
Watching with concern the course of the pandemic and the growing number of hospital admissions of nearly four times as many young patients, the Ministry of Health is preparing an emergency plan.
Specialists do not stop advising to wear masks indoors, or in places where many people are gathered, emphasizing that if infections continue to grow, it is possible that the masks will become mandatory again in these places, even in the middle of summer.
