About 30.6 thousand people lost their lives last year. These are the data published by Instat that show that this is the highest death rate ever recorded, heavily influenced by the cases of loss of life from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Compared to 2020, the number of deaths has increased by over 2,900 people across the country, where the fourth quarter of last year marked again the increase with the previous quarter reaching over 7800 deaths, from over 9 300 registered cases in the same period of 2020.
Instat has also revised the data for the other quarters of 2021 for deaths, where it turns out that only during the period January-March 2021 were recorded over 10,200 deaths, from over 9600 previously reported.
Compared to 2019 before the pandemic the number of people who have lost their lives has increased by more than 8,600 deaths.
Meanwhile, the number of births on the other hand has continued strong contraction. For the year left behind the statistics speak of over 3,700 infants less income in life compared to 2020, as the total number of births dropped to 27 284.
This profound difference where deaths continue to exceed births has caused the natural increase of the population to be estimated at 3,296 deaths more than births in 2021.
These disturbing figures for the past year have been significantly affected by the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic that continues to cause loss of life in the country by worsening demographic indicators.
