Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has arrived in Fier for the 31st anniversary of the founding of the branch of this city.
In his speech, Berisha recalled the beginnings of the founding of the Democratic Party, saying that the dictatorship considered Fier as a bastion of it.
Among other things, he emphasizes that the beginnings were not easy because there were cases when they were stoned and tried to block the road as they went from one municipality to another.
Berisha: First, let me, as the hierarchy wants, wish the Orthodox of Fier and all of Albania, happy this blessed day and it is a wonderful coincidence that we celebrate the first birthday of the Democratic Party. Today we all here have many obligations to bow with great respect, to express deep gratitude to those women and men of Fier, intellectuals, employees of this city who founded on January 6, 1991 in Fier the first opposition party in a time when the truth is that the dictatorship considered Fier a bastion of it.
Start-up times for beginners have not been easy. The Red Terror accompanied us from one municipality to another, from one village to another, but as were the ideals of the Democrats, we stood by our right placed in the streets and peaceful means to achieve our goals.
It was not uncommon for us to be stoned, to try to block the roads while we alone had tolerance and to try resolutely to win the hearts and minds of the people. Again we remained undefeated and continued on our way to great victory.
