A four-year-old boy was mistakenly sprayed with hot spray by German police as his mother took him to the fierce anti-restrictions protest yesterday in Bavaria, Germany.
Clashes broke out between police officers with rubber truncheons in their hands and protesters who punched and kicked them Sunday night in the Bavarian town of Schweinfurt.
The gruesome footage posted on social media showed the child screaming in his wheelchair, who was then being assisted by two police officers after coming into contact with the fuel used against the protesters.
After a few minutes of rinsing the eye the baby was calmed down.
Police sharply criticized the child’s mother, saying she had taken the child “to use as a human shield.”
“These parents agree that their children should be involved in violent clashes,” Olivier Malchow, head of the police union, told the daily Rheinische Post .
Malchow also complained about the harsh radicalization of anti-vaccine protesters in the country demonstrations.
Officers said they were pushed, hit and spat at by demonstrators.
“People are becoming more and more frustrated as long as the coronavirus issue continues to boil over,” Malchow was quoted as saying by the British Daily Mail.
Police said he had arrested people and had filed complaints against 44 protesters after the demonstration.
Public outrage in Germany has escalated following new restrictions imposed last week, banning gatherings of more than 10 people, as well as major events in stadiums or nightclubs.
Since the beginning of the month, unvaccinated Germans have been barred from entering stores labeled “non-essential”.
The constrictions come though the number of infections has been declining and the new Omicron variant is milder, similar to the common cold.
Police on Saturday forcibly closed a concert in the northern city of Hamburg attended by about 800 people.
There were incidents and damage to the premises during the operation.
