74 years old and without optical glasses, Liljana Gjergji continues to repair all types of watches in Vlora.
He started this profession when he was only 17 years old and did not leave it for a moment. Even when he has to go abroad with his children, he stays there for only a week and looks forward to returning to work.
Age is not a problem for her at all, while the eyes are lucky according to her, even though she has been working on small things for 53 years, which are tiring for everyone’s eye.
Liljana still remembers all kinds of watches that she has repaired from the first day of work, while according to her they once owned mechanical watches which require more work and talent, while today battery watches are easy to repair.
The 74-year-old says that young people stay away from this craft and prefer to do hairdressing or barbering. The pledge of the old watchmaker is that even in her family no one inherited this craft, not even the nephew even though he is unemployed while she still continues to work.
So it seems that with the latest of this generation of watchmakers, in Vlora the watches will be thrown away as there will be no more masters of their repair.
