“If Russia attacks Ukraine, care must be taken with the Balkans as well,” warns Ukrainian Veterans Affairs Minister Yulia Laputina, a former military intelligence officer familiar with Russian military tactics.
Laputina says that the outbreak of a conflict will not stay within the borders of her country. “Something is happening here, look at the Balkans. What the Russians are doing now in Serbia should be carefully monitored, because they are trying to tense the situation in the region, and this reminds us of how the Second World War started.“, Says the minister, who believes that Russian aggression could provoke World War III.
“Geopolitically, such a scenario is possible. “Attention must be paid to the issue of Ukraine for the security of the entire continent,” she added. According to Laputina, if war breaks out, 400,000 inactive servicemen in the country are ready to take up arms. When pro-Russian separatists invaded eastern Ukraine after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, many young Ukrainians volunteered to defend their country.
