Edi Rama, Zoran Zaev and Aleksandar Vucic gave a new impetus to the open Balkans. The EU blockade on livestock products from the countries of the region was responded to with a regional initiative.
I want the President of Serbia to express my respect for the citizens of Albania and I want you to see Serbia as a second home. ‘We also want to feel this way when we come to Albania’.
ALEKSANDAR VUCIC- “Of course, Belgrade and Pristina have different views but that is not a reason for us not to talk and this is not a reason for someone not to be part of the Open Balkans. We can mention the border crossing points in Jarinje and between Kosovo and Serbia or towards the Presevo valley or central Serbia as we say, however let’s talk about the essence. Will it be easier for Albanians and Serbs if there were no such borders or queues for people to move freely? So these create endless problems. Would it be easier if they were not? I believe so. “I do not believe that there is anyone, whether in Pristina, Mitrovica, Belgrade or Tirana, who would not agree with what I am saying.”
In his last days as Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Zoran Zaev said that the Open Balkans is the best answer to the failure of European policies.
ZORAN ZAEV: The Open Balkans is an authentic process. We encourage all the countries of the Western Balkans to contribute to this common field to connect with each other, to develop economically, above all without barriers, without restrictions, to be free, to adapt all this development for the needs of our people.
Edi Rama’s ambition for the next 6 months is to discuss the abolition of tariffs with some EU countries such as Italy, Greece and Hungary.
