Northern Macedonia will not impose any additional restrictions on the end-of-year holidays, incumbent Health Minister Venko Filipce said on Monday.
According to him, the epidemiological situation in the country is stable, so there is no need for new measures, despite the appearance of the first case with the variant, Omicron of coronavirus.
“I believe that all countries should be taught to live by strict preventive rules and increase the rate of vaccination against COVID-19. We can not set measures for every variant of the virus that appears. “I think that the requirement for compulsory vaccination, measures for the gastronomy sector as well as travel measures, are sufficient to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” said Filipce.
His utterance comes after the demands of some specialist doctors for the imposition of protective measures. But even the medical staff is divided on whether or not there is a risk of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
“All relevant and independent indications suggest that Omicron has much milder symptoms and the chances of ending up in hospital are about 80 percent lower than the currently dominant Delta variant,” said specialist doctor Niko Bekarovski.
The first case with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in northern Macedonia was discovered on December 24th. Other cases have not been detected, while the patient infected with Omicron is reported to be in stable health.
There are currently 4,832 active cases of COVID-19 in northern Macedonia, out of about 230,000 diagnosed with coronavirus./REL
