Heavy snow has caused flight cancellations at Seattle airport in Washington state, where ice was being cleared from runways and planes.
Most of the snow fell from noon on Sunday as the effects of the winter storm are expected to continue. Across the state of Washington, icy, snow-covered roads are causing problems for drivers.
Local authorities said they had responded to a total of 184 accidents since the snow started on Saturday night.
On Sunday alone, 615 roadblocks were reported.
With sub-zero temperatures overnight on many roads ice has formed. Public transport authorities have warned drivers returning to work today to reserve more time to reach destinations.
