The Italian government plans to ease the measures for people who have had contact with those infected with the coronavirus.
Isolation will not be required for those who have received the booster dose, have been vaccinated with both doses, or have recovered from COVID-19 disease less than 120 days ago.
They will need to submit a negative test five days after having had contact with any infected. The unvaccinated, if they have contact with any infected, will be forced to enter the quarantine for ten days.
The executive clarified that the new measures will enter into force after consultations with the special commissioner for COVID-19.
During this week, Italy recorded an increase in daily cases and on Wednesday recorded 98,030 cases, a record number of infections.
The number of hospitalized patients has also increased. The government has tightened measures during the holiday season, banning concerts and other entertainment events and closing discos until January 31st.
Also in Italy, wearing the mask outdoors has already become mandatory. Restrictions have also been set for travelers, including those within the European Union.
All citizens must undergo a coronavirus test before traveling.
