The United States set a new world record by reporting more than one million new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
According to Johns Hopkins University, 1,080,211 new cases have been reported in the country. However, it should be borne in mind that in Monday’s reporting, there is a significant increase in cases, as the figures are summarized in one, due to the three-day break due to the New Year holiday.
But researchers say that despite this, the new cases reported yesterday are twice as many as those reported last Monday, the statistics of which came just after a three-day break due to the Christmas holiday.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House chief health adviser, said Sunday that the increase in coronavirus cases in the US is describing an “almost vertical” curve.
Omicron is already the predominant variant in the country. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CIPD) by December 25, this variant was detected in about 59% of cases.
Dr. Fauci said the wave of infections will peak within a few weeks and then fall, just as it did in South Africa.
