Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney, speaking to BBC journalist Sally Nugent about the documentary about his life, made a strong statement about his alcohol addiction even when he was shining as a footballer at Manchester United. He states that he had reached the lowest point.
“I knew I needed help, to save myself, but also to save my family“.
Speaking about the “mistakes” he had made, the 36-year-old says that he could have taken someone’s life in that miserable condition:
“It could have been girls, it could have happened to drunk driving, which I did. Someone could have been killed or I could have killed myself. “I was in a serious condition.”
Rooney also said he felt he had to keep many of his problems as a player secret.
“10 or 15 years ago, I could not go to the locker room and say, ‘I’m struggling with alcohol, I’re struggling with mental health.’ I could not do that. ”/ Supersport
