A man has died while eight other people have been hospitalized in serious condition after deliberately contaminating drinks at a bar in Bavaria, German police announced today.
The man who died was 52 years old while the other sick were from 33 to 52 years old, German police told the local agency dpa.
Authorities did not say what the group of people were drinking for reasons of continuing the investigation, but said they had all drunk from the same bottle.
Some local media said the infected had drunk from a bottle of champagne.
The incident happened on Saturday in the Bavarian town of Weiden. When police arrived at the bar they had found people lying on the ground with stomach pains, and eight of them had to be taken to hospital.
A police spokeswoman told the local Bayerischer Rundfunk network that there were suspicions of attempted murder but at the moment they were not looking to suspect.
Investigations continue.
