Google has removed Russian state media Russia Today from its news search tool.
“In this extraordinary crisis we are taking extraordinary measures to stop the spread of misinformation and to stop online disinformation campaigns,” said Kent Walker, Google’s president for global affairs.
The company had already restricted Russian government-funded news sites from advertising and using certain features on YouTube, Google-owned video-sharing platform.
RT and Sputnik, another government-funded site, are considered by the US State Department as two “critical elements in Russia’s ecosystem of disinformation and propaganda.”
