The price of cooking oil in some markets in Tirana cost 40 lek more. Thus, a liter of oil reached the value of 300 Lekë. According to Economic Expert Klodian Muço, traders are raising the prices of basket products justifying themselves with the war in Ukraine.
Klodian Muço: “Companies at the moment they decide to make a long-term report, especially wholesalers, receive quantities for one year in a row that the price is theoretically predetermined, although these fluctuations in the stock market will be reflected, but not with such large changes. Traders seem to be taking advantage of the situation in which they find themselves. ”
Also by 30 Lekë has increased the prices of food products that are not exported from Ukraine or Russia, such as sugar and rice.
Klodian Muço: “There is informality that if the company brings me a fixed price and I will not change it. The price of oil has risen, as it is an imported product.
The increase in the prices of basket products can be curbed if the Competition Authority launches an investigation against the wholesalers.
Klodian Muço: “Theoretically, there should be an authority to deal with price control, to control that this increase of 30-40 Lek has come as a result of the increase in the import price of some products, or has come as a result of abuse or profit that some traders have from the economic situation. There is a tendency to panic and this has led traders to abuse prices. ”
Oil has become more expensive in Kosovo, going to three euros. Prime Minister Albin Kurti calls this increase an abuse.
Albin Kurti: “The price of oil currently in Kosovo is the most expensive in the world. It is an insult to prices that is done by the human factor and not by the objective situation. These prices will be inflated. “
