Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that the Russian military had suffered its biggest losses in decades.
In an Instagram post, Zelensky says that 31 tactical groups of Russian battalions are now no longer active.
He demands the immediate release of the mayor of Melitopol, who is said to have been abducted by Russian forces.
The Ukrainian president said he had discussed this with French and German leaders.
He also stressed that Ukraine is working with the European Commission to accelerate its EU membership.
