Russian journalist Andrey Babitsky has passed away today at the age of 57. Babitsky was a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and has often been called a traitor.
He was found dead today at his apartment in Donetsk but the causes of the incident are still unknown.
In one of his reports on the Russian war in Chechnya, he was also held captive by Russian troops. Eight years ago he was fired by Russian Radio Liberty after supporting the annexation of Crimea by Ukraine and not by Russia.
He moved to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine and in 2015 helped open a television station in the rebel-held area.
