“An evil that knows no borders,” shocked President Volodymyr Zelensky. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell are traveling by train to Kiev.
“Without the strength and courage to face us on the battlefield, the Russians are now, in a cynical way, turning their hatred on the civilian population. This evil has no limits, and if it is not punished, it will never stop“, Says Zelensky.
The state-owned railway company reported that over 30 people were killed and 100 others injured in the attack on the train station. The governor of Donetsk claims that thousands of people were there at the time of the attack, who were trying to leave by train.
Kramatorsku had one of the few stations that continued to operate in this part of the country, and is seen as one of the key routes for evacuating civilians from the eastern regions of Ukraine. Von der Leyen and Borell are expected to meet with Zelenskyn in Kiev. Last week, the Ukrainian capital was visited by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, while in mid-March, the Prime Ministers of Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic traveled by train.
The West has again tightened sanctions on Moscow following images showing the execution of civilians on the streets of Bucha. It was in response to these alleged Russian atrocities that von der Leyen proposed a fifth package of bloc sanctions to target Russia.
