The powerful blast that hit a mining plant in Burkina Faso has killed at least 59 people, local media reported, citing witnesses and regional authorities.
More than 100 people were injured in the blast.
The blast occurred yesterday afternoon in the village of Gbomblora south of Burkina Faso and is believed to have started from chemicals used in gold processing.
The official cause is still unknown according to the agency Reuters.
A witness, forest worker Samson Kambou described the scene of the explosion as a massacre.
“I saw bodies everywhere, it was horrible,” he told the AP network.
