Russia’s latest offensive in the eastern Donbas region has begun, a senior Ukrainian official said Monday, warning that Russia is amassing more forces.
Vadym Denysenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, said in a statement on national television: “From my point of view, this major offensive (in eastern Ukraine) has already begun“.
“We must understand that this will not be the repetition of February 24, when the first airstrikes and explosions began, and we said: “The war has begun.“. “The big de facto offensive has already begun.”
Ukrainian and Western officials have said in recent days that they have observed the movement of Russian troops in the Donbas, following major setbacks by Moscow in an attempt to take Kiev.
Denysenko said there were overnight explosions in the Dnipropetrovsk region and that shelling had continued in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.
