As the world’s attention turns to the war in Ukraine, Iran finds time to threaten Israel.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has made it clear that his state’s armed forces will target the Jewish country if the latter takes action against the Islamic Republic.
“If there is the slightest movement on your part against the state of Iran, the center of the Zionist regime will be the destination of our armed forces. “Iran is closely following every move by Israel.”
Rice’s comments came at length during his speech at the annual parade of the Iranian armed forces. Tehran has not recognized Israel since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and supports anti-Israel militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, while also blaming Israel for sabotaging its nuclear power plants and killing a nuclear scientist.
Israel has made no secret of its opposition to the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers reached in 2015, a pact it initially considered insufficient to reduce Iran’s nuclear program and military activities throughout the region.
Tehran and world powers are trying to renew the 2015 deal that collapsed after former President Donald Trump decided to pull the US out of the pact, but talks in Vienna have stalled for weeks.
