Three giraffes have died after touching low power cables in a wildlife park in Kenya.
One was killed when he came in contact with the power cord on Sunday, while two others were hanged in a similar incident on Friday.
All three were ‘Rothschild’ giraffes, listed as endangered species, writes the British DailyMail.
The incidents took place in Soysambu Nature Park in Kenya’s Nakuru region and sparked outrage on social media, particularly against the power line maintenance company.
Today the responsible company Kenya Power and Lighting said that it will relocate the power lines, writes the local agency Nairobi News.
Local environmental groups said this is not the first time giraffes have been killed by electrical cables. The group ‘Climate Change Kenya’ says that at least 11 giraffes have died this way.
Soysambu Park is home to 124 giraffes, including 50 males, 41 females and 33 cubs, according to the August 2018 census.
