Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska has stated today that handing over Ukrainian territory to Russia will not change anything and will not stop the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
“Ukrainians can not accept all the statements we sometimes hear from country leaders, in some cases the leaders of big and influential countries. “We can not accept to give part of the territory, it is like giving our freedom.” said Zelenska during an interview.
She reiterated her husband’s position that the Donbas region, where Russia has now concentrated its offensive, will again be Ukrainian.
“Even if we accept our territories, the aggressor will not stop there, he will continue to put pressure, he will continue to launch more and more attacks against our territory.” added Zelenska.
Located in southeastern Ukraine, the Donbas region’s proximity to Russia has dictated much of its troubled history.
Russia’s failures to occupy Kiev and other central regions of Ukraine in the first months of its occupation have made Donbas the center of Putin’s military ambitions.
