Freelancers will be taxed starting next year.

In an interview for Top Channel, the Minister of Finance Delina Ibrahimaj explained the tax scheme for this category that so far have been treated as a small business without taxes.

The new law that is being passed soon for public consultation, according to her, aims to avoid evasion and create equality in taxation.

“In many cases we have found violations where a natural person opens his nephew in order not to pay taxes as an employee. The law regulates this in two ways, namely by removing the exemption for the liberal professions and having a clause, which does not allow fragmentation. Within the law we have an element that if you as a natural person have a high percentage of your activity with another business, then we categorize it as employment and tax it as employment. “We are considering which professions will no longer be subject to exemption but to tax at the rate of 15% in terms of tax on natural persons.” said Delina Ibrahimi, Minister of Finance and Economy.

But even though the focus is on freelance professionals, the new law will be broad and extend to many areas, including taxation for digital currencies.

“The law also makes some adjustments regarding inheritance, there are articles that talk about private voluntary pensions, there are articles that deal with the taxation of digital currencies.”

According to Minister Ibrahimaj, the current tax exemptions for certain sectors will continue to remain in force until 2029.

““Those exceptions that we currently have will continue to exist, which means businesses with a turnover of up to 14 million ALL, for the tourism sector, incentives for the IT sector or for agricultural cooperation companies.”said Delina Ibrahimaj, Minister of Finance and Economy.
