Portugal has been on alert for days, bringing back memories of the devastating fires of 2017, which claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
While in France from the top of the Dune of Pilate (the highest sand dune in Europe) plumes of smoke have been seen filling the sky.
Meteorologists in France warn that the situation could worsen between Sunday and Tuesday – exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. In the south of the country, the flames have burned 2,800 hectares of forests, half of which are pine trees near Bordeaux.
Even in Spain the situation is not better, but the temperatures there are expected to soften at the end of the week, and the sweltering heat is expected to move through France and Britain, where the authorities have issued the second level of alert in view of the situation.
