The National Assembly convened by Sali Berisha, who voted for the dismissal of the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha, deepened the crisis within the party to the maximum.
A day after the 4952 members of the Assembly fired Basha and the four deputy leaders of the party, the leader of the Democrats announced the holding of the National Council. Basha responded with the same coin to the Berisha Assembly that fired him, proposing the same decision for 11 rebel deputies who opposed him, starting with the chairman of the national council, Edi Paloka.
This Sunday, there are mutual reactions and accusations between the two parties. In a post on the social network “Facebook”, Edi Paloka, emphasizing that he is not fighting for seats, invites all Democrats to unite for the “revival of the DP”, as Berisha and his supporters call it.
The decision of the leader of the right to call the Council, Paloka calls ridiculous and ‘null’, after “Basha was fired the day before”.
“Basha was fired yesterday by the Assembly, as well as us, whom he announced that he would dismiss us today, are from yesterday part of the Re-Establishment Commission of the Democratic Party. They, the secretaries, who ask the dismissed chairman to dismiss today, voted yesterday together with the other delegates, for the provisional merger of their functions. So my friends, do not feel at all embarrassed about my position.
The chair has never been my problem, for this my story in 31 years in the DP is enough for everyone to understand, even those who do not know me. I am worried about you and the other members of the National Council because they ultimately represent the Democrats, so I would not like to see them in this at all dignified and unfortunately ridiculous situation, where Basha is pushing them.“, Writes Paloka, who emphasizes that he feels the greatest regret for Basha:
“For the sake of the years we have spent, he as chairman and I as vice chairman, I feel sorry to see how he got to this point. I thought he would at least know how to be a little more dignified and wise“, Says the democrat.
He further invites Democrats to join:
“Important is the future of the DP and I am convinced that since yesterday, the Democrats have risen and once on their feet! I will invite them once again, all, to unite for the interest of the Democrats and all Albanians because the personal interest of each of us is related to their interests. The overthrow of the regime and the return of the DP to victory should be the only interest that unites us”.
