The wonderful story of Cassandra Madison and Julia Tinoetti, who were both given up for adoption after they were born, began when they met in adulthood, working in the same bar.
Cassandra and Julia quickly became friends after meeting in the US workplace.
Even their colleagues often commented on how much they resembled each other, as the two girls began to dress similarly, jokingly claiming to be “like sisters.”
Julia, 31, told Good Morning America: “We were very close. “They worked together, we went out together and we even dressed like each other.”
Cassandra supports her by saying: “She seemed to me a very intelligent and fashionable girl. “It was very natural.”
Both women had Dominican Republic flag tattoos and knew they had families on the vast Caribbean island.
They later learned that both had been given up for adoption soon after they were born, and began to doubt whether they were related to each other, but when they presented their adoption documents, there was no match.
“The documents said we came from two different cities and even had different surnames,” says Julia.
But Cassandra’s suspicions about her ancestry led her to her homeland, the Dominican Republic where she managed to find her natural father, who told her he had had a sister who was also given up for adoption.
In a program on Fox61, she recounts the moment of finding the biological family: “There were a large number of people waiting for me, many of them in T-shirts with my face in them.”
“It was probably one of the most emotional situations I’ve ever been through,” adds Cassandra. “My biological father came and hugged me, he would not let me go and I would not let him go either.”
As it turned out later, Julia and Cassandra’s parents had given birth to a total of nine children, three sons and six daughters. But they had made the difficult decision to adopt two of their daughters because they could not afford to support such a large family.
After learning this story, 32-year-old Cassandra began to suspect that her close friend “as a sister” Julia, could be something more than that.
She persuaded him to perform the DNA test to make the discovery incredible.
Thanks to Cassandra’s insistence on revealing her origins, and a little help from technology, the two close friends are already as they should have always been, sisters.
