Aleksandar Madzovski, caretaker of the zoo, says that he managed to gain the trust of the lioness mother and takes care of her and her puppies every day
The Skopje Zoo was proud today to announce that after twenty years, three white lions have been born, thanks to the mother lioness Bella.
Aleksandar Madzovski, the zoo’s caretaker, recounted the emotion and challenge he and his colleagues experienced this year on March 7, when Bella began giving birth.
“The first newborn came out, on March 7. The weather was still cold, there was snow left. “With our reaction we managed to separate Bela from the little one, re-animate her, transfer her to a safe room so that she would be prepared, there in that room she gave birth to two other lions”, said Madzovski.
Madzovski managed to gain the trust of the lioness mother, as she takes care of her and her puppies every day. He says that they are making great progress, as recently the puppies have started to grow teeth and in addition to breast milk they also eat meat.
“She is a super mother and takes good care of the little ones. It allows us to approach them. Of course they are already curious, they approach us. “However, she has few reservations, a kind of mother instinct”, said Maxhovski.
The director of the Skopje Zoo, Kristijan Stamenov, stressed that mother Bela and father akaaka are beautiful specimens of rare species of white lions, which currently live in special environments due to the necessary veterinary care they need. offered to mothers and young lions.
Stamenov said he is particularly pleased that the number of animals at the zoo has increased significantly in the recent period.
“Lately we have been witnessing a real ‘baby boom’ at the zoo, we started with the little lions, we continued with many others like pathos, lemurs, lizards. “The small camel was also unusual, for the first time of the type of camels with double backs”, said Stamenov.
The little lions were looking for visitors, but they and father Çaka will have to wait until the end of May to meet them, when the veterinary team decides they are ready to appear in the outside world.
