Tearful from the beginning of her speech, former Speaker of Parliament Jozefina Topalli, said that the DP has taken a downturn since 2013
Excerpts from Topalli’s speech:
Our beginning, of all of us together with those who are not in this hall today, but with all their hearts and minds are as democrats as the first day, is the reason why I am here today.
Man as much as we have life, has as much value as courage and determination, as much sincerity as balance in judgment, as much courage as self-respect, and as much chastity as has developed a sense of shame.
What was the beginning of our downfall?
The day when the values on which this party was built began to fall.
And for years this has happened and we have been silent. We are silent.
After 2013 the downfall of the PD took the run. There was no need for analysis to understand that there were things that did not go in our Party. Many were confused, confused. Some hugged the new mayor in the hope that the future would smile on us as much as he did on everyone.
But the future more and more resembled the upheaval, the decline of political and intellectual thought, and not infrequently began to appear even more banal than one might think.
After 2013 the PD entered a deep crisis. Identity crisis. Representation crisis. Leadership crisis
-In the Parliament, the deputies fought the crime, while the leadership with a bargain bargained with the government.
On the streets, citizens protested for their rights. Negotiations for construction permits had begun in the municipal office of the DP chairman. In the houses of the Albanians, the dismissal had started, in the house of the mayor, the work for the brother-in-law was increasing.
And so, day after day and year after year, instead of opening we closed, instead of inclusiveness came exclusion, instead of listening to each other, the proclamation of hostile groups began, instead of cooperation came division, instead of parliament umbrellas started, instead of elections paved the way for boycott, instead of accepting the loss, the loss started to be called victory!
The first to perceive it were the Albanians, since 2017. And I am not just talking about the election result. I am talking about the worst that was happening to our country – the departure of Albanians. Not only were they dissatisfied with the government, but they looked no further; they felt betrayed; in their perception they (the mayors) were together. What we saw next showed us that it was not just perception.
Some truths are also told in politics. That’s why we’re here today. I know not everyone does. This is what is happening and is happening today, even in other countries.
Conformism, silence and delay in reaction have been the other main reason for the fall of the DP.
I do not belong to those who despise politics and insult the politician. Jo. Because the good politician has the burden like no one else to take responsibility and give solutions.
But I agree that man, and especially a politician who sees his political career only as a gift, destroys the profile of every politician. Because the politician is destroyed by politics without principles, by pleasures without conscience, by wealth that is not the fruit of work, by knowledge when it comes without character, by agreements when made without morals and by faith when it comes without sacrifice.
