Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to return to the country from Singapore, but no date has been set.
The former leader fled Sri Lanka after mass unrest over an economic crisis, while Cabinet spokesman Bandula Gunawardena told reporters Mr Rajapaksa was not in hiding.
According to the BBC, protesters held mass rallies after accusing the former president of mishandling finances, leading to an increase in the prices of essential goods.
Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka on July 13 for the Maldives, before heading to Singapore on July 14.
He tendered his resignation shortly after his arrival, which was formally accepted by the Sri Lankan cabinet on 15 July.
Singapore has stated that the ousted president did not seek political asylum when he arrived, but is staying in Singapore on a 14-day visa.
