The situation of Covid19 has undergone a leap of increasing numbers in the last two weeks in Albania and many European countries.
But compared to countries in the region such as Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, Albania has much higher figures. In Albania, nearly 1000 new cases were reported in 24 hours during this week, while in Kosovo there were 192 new cases during the last 24 hours, in Macedonia 172 in Montenegro 227 and so on.
In Albania, an average of 18 citizens per 100,000 inhabitants have been affected in the space of one week, at least according to official figures, since the number of infected is much higher. A good part of the citizens do not go to be tested, while others, as soon as the symptoms start, begin medical treatment by consulting a doctor but without being registered as positive. Apart from the daily cases calculated for every 100 thousand inhabitants, Albania is more than the countries of the region.
In Kosovo, daily cases are increasing, but not at the same rate as in Albania. Estimated in one week in Kosovo, 11 people have been infected for every 100,000 inhabitants.
Similarly, in Macedonia, which has a weekly average of 172 new cases in 24 hours, it turns out that they were infected in the last week, when the number started to increase, 9 people for every 100,000 inhabitants.
Montenegro also has much lower new daily cases than in Albania, but due to the smaller number of population for every 100,000 inhabitants, nearly 40 people are infected per week.
This sudden increase in the number of infected in many other countries in Europe has been attributed to the new Omicron variant BA4 and BA5 circulating, as both of these subvariants turn out to be many times more contagious than Omicron itself and the subvariants the other. In Albania, it is still not known who caused this sudden increase, as ISHP declared that BA2 is circulating, which has been circulating since May and in June, the reported numbers were so low that it appeared that the virus left Albania . But to confirm if BA4 and BA5 are circulating in Albania, the answers from the reference laboratories are expected, but by then the peak may have been reached.
