In Albania, new cases of coronavirus marked a decrease during the last week (December 7-13), although, unlike the previous week, the tests increased. As a result, positivity fell to its lowest level since the last week of August.
Official data processed by VOA show that the number of newly infected fell by 6 percent, down to a total of 2023 cases, or 129 less than the previous week. On Monday, the lowest level was recorded with 138 affected in 27 municipalities of the country: 51 in Tirana, 18 in Fier, 12 in Berat, 8 in Mallakastër, 6 in Lushnje, out of 4 citizens in Skrapar, Gjirokastër, Durrës, from 3 citizens in Kamza, Përmet, Tepelena, Memaliaj, from 2 citizens in Dimal, Vlora, Lezha, Tropoja, from 1 citizen in Mirdita, Kruja, Vora, Dibra, Mat, Roskovec, Saranda, Korca, Kuçova, Gramsh, Librazhd.
While last week, the decline was entirely due to the strong decrease in tests, this time the fact that the number of tampons performed, increased by 17.4 percent, reaching a total of 16191 tampons. As a result, the positivity (ratio between new cases and tests) dropped to 12.4 percent, or 3.1 percentage points less. Positivity is an indicator of the spread of the virus in the community.
Contrary to this trend, the number of victims increased. During the last wave there were 25 citizens who lost their lives, or two more. In the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced 6 loss of life: a citizen from Vlora 55 years old, two citizens from Durrës aged 65-67, a citizen from Elbasan 67 years old, a citizen from Berat 70 years old, a citizen from Tirana 81 years old.
Meanwhile, the situation in hospitals has remained almost the same, except for the fact that in the last four days there has been a slight increase in patients treated in intensive care. As of Monday afternoon, there were 147 hospitalized, of which 15 were in serious condition./VOA
