The Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi and the Director of the National Agency for Civil Protection, Haki Çako, received in a meeting in the premises of the National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies, the European Commissioner for Civil Protection, Janez Lenarčič.
The meeting took place in the framework of Albania’s membership process in the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
This meeting took place after the meeting of Mr. Lenarčič with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, where he expressed the will of our country to become part of the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union.
Afterwards, the Minister of Defense and the European Commissioner for Civil Protection addressed the premises of the National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies.
During this meeting, Mr. Peleshi stressed that membership in this mechanism is an important step in strengthening cooperation and coordination at European level and improving the civil protection system and disaster risk management.
The Minister of Defense informed the European Commissioner for Civil Protection on the latest developments and the reform of the Civil Protection system at the national level in order to deal more effectively with large-scale crises.
Also, the Minister of Defense expressed his deep gratitude for the contribution and solidarity shown by the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in the difficult moments that our country has gone through during the 2019 earthquake, the COVID-19 pandemic and the fires in the summer season.
During this meeting it was emphasized the fact that the cooperation between Albania and this mechanism in the field of civil protection will continue to be strengthened in the future.
