Ukraine has announced that all Russian troops occupying the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have already left the area, while a little while ago it was reported that only a small part of them had withdrawn.
“According to the staff of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, there are no foreigners in the country now.” said state-owned nuclear firm Energoatom.
Russian forces have also withdrawn from the nearby town of Slavutych, where workers live in Chernobyl. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is now preparing to send a mission to radioactive waste facilities in northern Ukraine.
Chernobyl was captured by Russian troops shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, although Ukrainian staff remained in the control room.
