A dentist from Pennsylvania in the US is accused of illegally profiting about $ 5 million after he killed his wife during a hunting trip to Africa.
Lawrence Rudolph and Bianca Finizio Rudolph were married for 34 years before Finizio’s death in 2016 in Zambia, according to documents from federal officials.
The couple often went hunting and traveled together to Africa and other exotic continents.
Rudolph, 67, said at the time that he was in the bathroom of their room on October 11, 2016, when he heard a gunshot and saw his bloodied wife on the ground.
The hunting rifle had been fired as the woman was placing it in her box, Rudolph claimed.
But in the days and weeks that followed, Rudolph’s conduct led investigators to suspect that something was wrong.
Already five years after the event Rudolph was formally charged with murder on foreign territory and postal fraud.
Charges against Rudolph were filed this month in the state of Colorado, where one of the insurance companies that had paid has its headquarters.
The lawyer of the accused said: “These are unacceptable accusations against Dr. “Larry Rudolph, a man who loved his 34-year-old wife and did not kill her.”
In the serious incident, Finizio was shot “directly in the heart” and from the photos of the victim it was understood that he was shot from a distance of 2 to 3 meters, investigators said.
Officials later learned that Rudolph’s life insurance had paid him $ 4.87 million, but said the man had filed the allegations “as part of his scheme to extort companies with false and manipulated claims.”
Friends of the Finizio victim said she would never admit that her body was cremated at the crematorium because of her religious beliefs, while investigators added that Rudolph “would never divorce her for fear of losing his money”.
Rudolph’s lawyer asked the court to release the accused on bail as the trial continues.
