The fifth phase of the police operation codenamed “Restart”, launched four months ago, is being finalized.
The operation after intensive investigations, conducted by the Section for Investigation of Illegal Trafficking and Narcotics in DVP Korça, under the direction of the Prosecution of the Korça Judicial District.
2 citizens are also handcuffed and another 51.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis are seized.
The number of detainees goes to 12 and to 373.5 kilograms of cannabis narcotics seized as part of this operation, for cracking down on a criminal group in the field of narcotics trafficking towards the Greek state, distribution of narcotics and illegal possession of weapons.
Specialists of the Section for Investigation of Illegal Trafficking and Narcotics in the Local Police Directorate of Korça, under the direction of the Korça Judicial District Prosecutor’s Office, in cooperation with the Devoll Police Commissariat, Special Forces “Eagles” and Border Police, following the operation “Restart”, launched four months ago, have successfully finalized its fifth phase, as a result of which the citizens were caught and arrested in flagrante delicto:
• DB, 33 years old, resident in the village of Mborje, Korça, (who was under the security measure “Home arrest” for the criminal offense “Assistance in illegal border crossing”).
• EV, 30 years old, resident in the village of Mborje, Korça.
The police services, based on the information gathered that the above citizens in cooperation with each other, were transporting a quantity of drugs, organized the work and located the vehicle type “Mercedes Benz” with which they were traveling, on the road axis Korca-Bilisht . The driver of the vehicle, citizen EV, as soon as he ascertained that he was under police surveillance, tried to leave quickly, hitting the vehicles of the officers, but was immediately apprehended and neutralized.
During the control exercised on the vehicle, in his luggage were found and seized as material evidence 50 packages, with a total weight of 51.5 kg of suspected narcotic substance cannabis.
In cooperation with the Prosecution, investigations are ongoing to fully document this illegal activity and to bring to justice the other persons involved.
The materials were passed to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Korça Judicial District for the criminal offenses “Production and sale of narcotics” committed in collaboration and “Removal of a prisoner from his place of residence”.
