Strong storms have hit southern and western Germany, where hailstones have reached up to half a meter high. So much hail fell in the village of Weiler, Bavaria, within a short period of time that some roads were completely blocked by ice.

The storms uprooted trees from the roots of the fire crews and had to pump water from the flooded basements.
Almost a year ago, Germany faced one of its biggest natural disasters, when dozens of people lost their lives after torrential rains in the western areas of the country. Storms and rain in the Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia caused terrible damage at the time.
Floods of this magnitude were previously recorded in Germany, but meteorologists predicted that due to climate change, such extreme phenomena could now be recorded more frequently.
