“Architecture in communism”, a documentary with ideas by Ergys Mërtiri, introduces us to the architectural heritage and urban planning of the communist period, through a trip through Tirana
This film explains how the regime produced its own Tirana, imposing on the citizens its own tastes, dynamics and way of life, starting from the cult objects of propaganda.
The journey starts from the former Kinostudio “Shqipëria e re”, the pride of the myth of industrialism displayed at the Textile Factory, to the grim uniformity of houses – blocks of flats.
As we see even today these traces of the communist architect we naturally wonder why aesthetics are almost negligible.
This project was implemented by the Institute for the Study of the Crimes and Consequences of Communism.
