AstraZeneca guarantees that the third dose of its coronavirus vaccine also helps against the Omicron variant, as it significantly increases the level of antibodies in the body.
“Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca vaccine) significantly increases the level of antibodies against the Omicron variant after receiving the third dose“, Said the pharmaceutical company, referring to the data of a study that they themselves have conducted.
“The third booster dose neutralizes the Omicron variant to levels we have seen in the past, when people received the second dose of the Delta variant vaccine“, Said its leaders.
Antibody neutralization levels were also higher in immunized persons at booster doses than in those who had previously had the disease.
This study was conducted by the University of Oxford, the renowned university that last year helped AstraZeneca develop the coronavirus vaccine.
The day before, the World Health Organization warned states that they are accelerating the immunization campaign with third and booster doses, arguing that this is deepening inequality in access to vaccines, which according to the WHO, could prolong the pandemic.
According to its head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus insisted that the priority should be to get the vaccine from people at high risk before they are initially given to those who have taken two doses.
