“Away from burning mandates” / Ivi Kaso presents the resolution of the Assembly: We distance ourselves from the “presidency”, all officials will be elected by vote

After reflecting on political activity and decision-making during its two terms in opposition, the Democratic Party is aware and determined to end undemocratic practices and failed political approaches.

Democratic Party:

Condemns and distances itself from the practice of boycotting elections. The Democratic Party brought pluralism and political freedoms to Albania and it will never be directly or indirectly part of the efforts to undermine pluralism and restrict the freedom of political choice of citizens.

It distances itself from the practice of ‘burning’ parliamentary seats. Parliamentarism is an essential value of any free and democratic society and the Democratic Party is determined to fight for the strengthening of parliamentarism. The Democratic Party will be everywhere where the interests of the citizens are fought for and one of the main places for the protection of these interests is the Albanian Parliament.

Condemns and distances itself from undemocratic methods in the leadership of the party, ending the Presidency, arbitrary individual decision-making, leadership of the party with extra-party structures and the power of family, friends or private advisers in the decision-making and activity of the party.

Condemns and distances itself from informal and non-transparent practices of collecting and managing non-partisan funds for the party. It punishes and distances itself from any involvement in financing schemes and money circulation through offshore companies and illegal and non-transparent financial channels. It engages in professional management and full transparency of all party finances.

It distances itself from the practices of paid lobbying and condemns the use of lobbying to interfere in the decision-making and internal processes of other countries.

Democratic Party:

Reaffirms the aspiration for which the DP was founded: the country’s European integration and support for Euro-Atlantic institutions and the United States of America. Reconfirms the embrace and respect of all values ​​of the Conservative Party and the European People’s Party — European and world political families.

Reconfirms the principle of competition and internal competition as the basic principle of party organization. All candidates for public office (MPs and mayors) and all key party leaders at all levels (mayors from center to base) will be selected through this method, ie the model one member one vote! The most important party policy decisions will be subject to the membership referendum.

Reaffirms the determination to guarantee the continuous renewal of the party leadership elites, to guarantee the ability and quality of its leaders. The removal of the chairman and his team from the leadership of the party in the event of losing the general election remains a fundamental and non-negotiable principle.

Reconfirms the principle of party openness, stipulating that at least one third of all central statutory party leaders be renewed every four years. It is specifically committed to opening up to youth and women: by 2025, 40 percent of all central statutory party leaders will be women and 30 percent under the age of 40.

Engages in a permanent dialogue with citizens and social groups. It will establish and coordinate ongoing lectures with the public on the most important political, economic and social issues in the country. Reconfirms the efforts to strengthen democracy and freedoms through active participation in elections and in all institutional political processes in the country. Reaffirms its commitment to all efforts to guarantee free and fair elections as the only way to seize and exercise power. Engages in the modernization of the internal administration of the party to create a professional, efficient and impartial party administration that guarantees the smooth running of political activity and impartial internal electoral processes. Engages in the digitalization and inclusion of technology in every aspect of party management and party administration
