The request of the Democratic Party in the Constitutional Court for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into the “Becchetti Case” has fallen for non-fulfillment of votes.
On March 10, the Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court, after the Assembly rejected the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into the Becchetti case, hoping that the Constitutional Court would declare in their favor, to then proceed to the parliamentary inquiry into the matter. .
The Constitutional Court questioned the DP representatives about how the Albanian state was protected.
In a statement to the media at the time, Grida Duma accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of being afraid to investigate the matter, making him responsible for the 120m-euro compensation that the Albanian state must pay Becchetti, by decision of International Court of Arbitration.
Duma stressed that the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry does not need the approval of any political force, saying that the DP would go to the end of this issue.
Fancesco Becchetti sued Albania in the arbitration court in Strasbourg, claiming that the public statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama have violated his presumption of innocence.
The lawsuit filed by Becchetti was filed in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on October 21, 2015 and was communicated to the Albanian government on January 12.
At the same time, the Italian businessman filed another lawsuit against Albania for the unauthorized seizure of Agon Channel television.
After a long judicial ordeal, the court acquitted Becchetti and sentenced Albania to a bill of millions of euros.
