Basha said that today is the day when the Democrats must clearly separate themselves from an “exhausting” phase of Sali Berisha’s conflict with the United States.
According to Basha, the Democratic Party announces from today a full partnership without dilemmas with the United States, which, as he said, “can not wait to be with us until the next victory of the Democratic Party at the helm of the country”.

Today, the conflict that Sali Berisha has had and is deepening day by day is more visible in the eyes of everyone and there is no dilemma. There is no longer any doubt that all this has cost us a lot. It has cost a lot to the Democratic Party and every member and voter.
So today is the day, in this assembly, that we are clearly separated from this phase which has cost us a lot, has exhausted us, has left us out of access to power, has left us out of institutions, has significantly reduced the chances of coming to power, has significantly reduced the chances of realizing our projects for the development of Albania and Albanian democracy.
I want to announce today my will, as the chairman of the Democratic Party, to close this long chapter of conflict with our strategic partners. The full and unequivocal partnership with the US, our strategic partner who was on our side in the battle to overthrow communism and the victory of the democratic forces, and looks forward to being with us until the next PD victory at the helm of the country, is at the core of the PD, is in the genetic code of the PD.
And there is no need for any voting, no measurement, no confirmation, for no process that can put it up for discussion. This partnership is simple, natural, complete and deep.
We, as of today, remove any ambiguity regarding the alliance with the US. Not only is this our strategic interest, but because we believe in it. Our Euro-Atlanticism was born with the DP and as such it can not be put to any vote, no referendum and no process.
We must clearly separate from the opposition and coordinate with our allies all those acts, those reforms, those projects which aim at the reform of the Albanian state, the rule of law and democracy in Albania, welcoming, confirming and initiating every initiative that goes in favor of the interest to build a better future.
