After personally banning the sending of MIg29 fighter jets from Poland to Ukraine, Joe Biden again warned of the danger of a Third World War.
A direct conflict between Russia and NATO would be catastrophic, the US president said, adding that the United States would defend “every inch” of the military alliance’s territory if necessary.
“NATO comes today with a full force, much more united. We will not wage war against Russia in Ukraine. “The direct NATO-Russia confrontation is practically the Third World War, and we must try to prevent this at all costs,” he said.
Speaking about US troops along the border with Russia, the White House chief made it clear that if they moved, if “we respond, then have no illusions, this will be the Third War, understand this,” Biden said.
A day earlier, it was announced that Washington would strip Russia of its trade-favored status due to aggression in Ukraine. The decision means the termination of normal trade relations with Moscow.
The lifting of this status, in coordination with the European Union and the G7 countries, makes it possible to impose tariffs on Russian imports, further isolating the country’s economy. The new sanctions come amid growing bipartisan pressure on Washington to canceled what is officially known as “normal permanent trade relations with Russia”.
