A 25-year-old from Ohio in the US was hit to death by the horn of a female bison, which dropped her body about 3 feet into the air.
The serious incident reportedly occurred when the young woman approached the wild animal to talk to or touch it.
The 25-year-old was visiting Grove City National Park in Ohio, about 20 minutes from Columbus.
Park officials said the girl, whose identity has not been released, was approached nearly 3 feet from the female bison on the park’s dedicated promenade.
The animal was reported to have attacked it with its horn, raising it more than 3 meters high in the air.
The victim was treated by park emergency officials and later airlifted to Eastern Idaho Medical Center. But he had lost his life from drilling and other wounds.
Two other people were reportedly about 7-8 meters away from the same bison but it is not clear if they were injured.
Bison can weigh about 1 ton and are the main sources of injuries in the famous American Yellowstone Nature Park.
Officials there often warn visitors to stay at least 20 feet away from bovine wildlife, as well as other park wildlife such as deer, sheep and wild geese. While the safety distance to bears and wolves is recommended at 100 meters.
Bison are unpredictable animals and can run up to 55 km per hour, but this is the first incident of its kind this year.
