US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Saturday he had authorized the Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to send US-made anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, a move amid rising tensions. of Ukraine with Russia.
“I have accelerated and authorized and we fully support the transfers of defense equipment that NATO allies Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are providing to Ukraine to strengthen its ability to defend itself in the face of unprovoked and irresponsible Russian aggression.” Mr Blinken said in a Twitter post.
He also thanked the former Soviet republics and NATO members “for their support of Ukraine.”
Mr Blinken’s approval of arms shipments came a day after the United States and Russia made no progress on Ukraine at the summit, other than promising to continue talks.
Mr. Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met for about an hour and a half in Geneva, but neither of them changed their position on key issues.
