The bombings that have been reported in the last 48 hours in Eastern Ukraine, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken calls false provocations to justify Russia’s further “aggression” against the former Soviet country.
“Everything we are seeing is part of a scenario of creating false provocations, for us to respond to and then launch a new aggression against Ukraine,” Blinken said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to accuse Western statements that Russia is planning to invade Ukraine. According to him, these comments have worsened the situation at the border.
“AkCurrently, we see a deterioration of the situation in eastern Ukraine. “Exercises are just outdoor exercises that do not threaten anyone,” Putin said.
Russia has held massive military exercises near Ukraine’s borders in recent weeks, while the Russian leader has announced that he will personally oversee military exercises on Saturday, which will include launching ballistic missiles.
The separatist leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, has called for citizens to leave the area, as he says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will soon order soldiers to attack.
“Women, children and the elderly must be evacuated first. “Temporary escape will protect your life and health and that of your relatives”, said Pushilin.
The joint Ukrainian command center said the rebels violated the ceasefire at midnight on Friday, while separatist groups in Donetsk and Luhyansk said the army had fired in the morning.
Following the blasts that were reported on Friday, Kiev and Washington accused Russia of seeking to provoke incidents to justify a subsequent invasion.
Russia for its part has denied such a plan, while claiming that it is withdrawing troops, after the end of the exercise.
As Russian forces surround their neighbors, with heavy weapons, there are fears that Ukraine will get involved in a clash that Russia could use as a pretext for invasion.
