US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has told the BBC he is convinced Ukraine can win its war with Russia.
The US Secretary of State said he could not say how long the war would last, but insisted that Ukraine’s defeat was not inevitable.
He acknowledged that “the weight of the Russian army, if it puts everything in it, far exceeds what Ukraine is able to accumulate.”
But he praised the Ukrainian people for their determination and said he expected that “over time” it would become clear that Moscow could not submit to the will of the people.
“If Moscow’s intention is to somehow try to overthrow the government and install its puppet regime, 45 million Ukrainians will reject this in one way or another,” he said.
Blinken said the US and other allies remain concerned about the risk of escalation.
