Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Ukraine had assured the United States that it would not use US-provided weapons systems “against targets on Russian territory.”
“There is a strong bond of trust between Ukraine and the United States, as well as with our allies and partners.” said Blinken at a conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Biden has announced that he will send US-made mobile artillery missile systems to Ukraine, otherwise known as HIMARS, which has short-range ammunition shorter than Ukraine had requested.
Blinken reported that President Biden had been clear with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the consequences of the Russian occupation, including sending security aid to Ukraine.
“There was no hiding of the ball. We have been extremely clear about this since day one, when President Biden communicated it directly to President Putin. “So we did exactly what we said we would do.” he said.
According to the BBC, this Wednesday Blinken clarified that he will ensure that Ukraine has the necessary equipment to repel Russian aggression. At the same time, he stressed that the US will continue to provide defense assistance to Ukraine.
