The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has received a letter from the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Antony Blinken, where among other things he has written about the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, where he hopes for Kurti’s leadership to restore momentum in the dialogue process by supporting Kosovo’s previous commitments, then promoting transparency, avoiding actions or rhetoric that could increase tensions, and engaging in negotiations with the required focus, creativity and urgency.

Secretary Blinken said that the relationship between the United States and Kosovo is rooted in common democratic values and commitment to a sovereign and independent Kosovo.

“By generously sheltering Afghans awaiting resettlement, Kosovo is showing leadership on which the United States and others can rely,” Blinken wrote.

Similarly, he said, the joint deployment of the Kosovo Security Force with the US military in Kuwait highlights Kosovo’s growing capacity to contribute to global security.

“As a friend and partner of Kosovo, the United States looks forward to working with you to fully implement President Biden’s agenda for our relationship, including strengthening the rule of law, protecting minority rights, promoting economic growth, and ensuring “of the long-delayed agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, with a focus on mutual recognition”, wrote Secretary Blinken in the letter.

Regarding the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Secretary Blinken said that the unresolved nature of relations remains a major obstacle to membership and full integration in European and Euro-Atlantic institutions, which is a common goal of the United States and Kosovo. .

“We believe that the EU-mediated dialogue remains the best forum for the normalization of negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina and we coordinate closely with our EU partners for this purpose,” he wrote. Blinken.

In a letter to Prime Minister Kurti, Secretary Blinken said that the United States hopes for your personal leadership to restore momentum in the dialogue process by upholding your country’s prior commitments, then promoting transparency, avoiding actions or rhetoric that can increase tensions and by engaging in negotiations with the required focus, creativity and urgency.

“I encourage you to pay attention to reaching an agreement on electricity in northern Kosovo and to advancing common goals regarding missing persons. “It is in Kosovo’s interest for these issues to be resolved and lead to a compromise solution in the short term, so that they can serve as a basis for further progress towards comprehensive normalization,” Blinken wrote.

“Supporting court decisions, in particular decisions related to minority rights, would have a similarly positive effect and is in line with your government’s priorities for strengthening the rule of law,” he added.

“Please work closely with Ambassador Hovenier and the US Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, because both are fully empowered to address these issues with you. Both are prepared to discuss the specifics with you and your team. We are ready to help Kosovo to achieve common goals “, concluded the letter sent to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, US Secretary of State, Antony S. Blinken./KosovaPress/
